A lot happened in the NASCAR offseason this year.  Here is a recap of everything that happened.

Monster Energy Drink became the title sponsor of the NASCAR Cup Series.  It is now called the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

28 time race winner Carl Edwards decided to call it quits after 13 years in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.  The retirement took a lot of people by surprise, as Edwards had really been looking forward to 2017 and an opportunity to finally win a title.   “I don’t have a life raft I’m jumping onto; I’m just jumping. And in a way, that makes it easier. This is a pure, simple, personal decision,” Edwards said in his retirement press conference.

NASCAR will now have 3 segments in their races.  The first 2 stages will award points to the top 10, and a playoff point to the winner of the segment.  Playoff points will be added to the 2000 points they start off with at the start of the playoffs, if the driver qualifies for it.  In the 3rd segment, everyone gets normal points.  The winner also get 5 playoff points.

Stewart-Haas Racing sued Danica Patrick’s sponsor Nature’s Bakery $31 million because Nature’s Bakery will not pay it to Danica.  They wont pay it to her because “she hasn’t advertised it enough on social media.”
