Many teens today are anxious to get their license on their 16th birthday. While this is an exciting step in every teens life as they grow into adults, there are many fears teens have as well as plenty of dangers out on the road.

According to the Driving School of North Texas, teens are not safe drivers until two years after they get their license. This means that every single day, our roads become more dangerous. 30% of the cost of motor vehicle injury costs come from the 14% of the US population: young drivers between the ages of 15-24. This is terrifying to a new driver. No one wants to be the cause of a crash that could injure or possibly be fatal to another driver.

A HUGE danger to a new driver is distracted driving. Most teens can’t resist reading a text or loading their cars with all their rowdy friends. New drivers are still learning to be aware of every surrounding, and not being focused is a big danger to themselves and fellow drivers on the road. Even if a new driver is not the one who is being distracted, there are hundreds of thousands of other people who ARE being distracted. In Texas, there is now even a law that prohibits more than one non family passenger in the car with a new driver until the age of 18, and no cell phone use whatsoever, (even wireless or bluetooth) until the age of 18.

Overall, as long as new drivers follow the rules of the road and are aware of their surroundings, they will be the safest they can be and they will be taking steps to keep themselves safe. Driving can be scary, especially since no one knows who is paying attention on the road.
