Clint Bowyer snapped his 190 race winless streak dating back to 2012 with a win on Monday’s snow-delayed STP 500 at Martinsville. He took the lead from Ryan Blaney on lap 285, and led all but one of the remaining laps en route to his emotional win. He started burning out before he even finished his cooldown lap, sliding into turn three and almost crashing. “We learned last year,” said Bowyer. “Obviously, Harvick came on strong at the end of last year, but it was a learning year for our team and the 14 bunch. It was just time.” Bowyer was very confident in his chances to win, and he expressed that to his son Cash. Bowyer said, “I told him (Cash) this morning, I was like, ‘Dammit, we’ve got to get a picture in Victory Lane.” Bowyer last won at Charlotte in October of 2012, back when he drove the #15 for Michael Waltrip Racing. In addition to breaking his winless streak, he also became the first driver in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series history to have won races in a Chevy, Toyota, and Ford. It was also his first win with Stewart-Haas Racing.

The Alpha Energy Solutions 250 for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was delayed from Saturday to Monday because of an unexpected snowstorm that hit Martinsville on Saturday and dumped nearly 6 inches of snow on the racing surface. John Hunter Nemechek won the race in a late race battle with Kyle Benjamin, who is a rookie that was making his truck series debut. It was Nemechek’s 6th career win, and first since Iowa in June of last year. He made a three-wide pass for the lead on lap 220 and led the final 31 laps in his win. “I can’t thank everyone on our staff enough – everyone who pours their heart and soul into this deal,” Nemechek said. “There’s only four guys in our shop this year, so it’s really cool to be able to come back over here to the Truck Series …Congrats to all these guys – these guys deserve it.” Brett Moffitt, who won at Atlanta a couple of races ago, finished third after making a late race charge on fresh tires. Grant Enfinger and Noah Gragson rounded out the top five.
