The living room
A wondrous place of youthful joy and
Endless movie marathons
A place of plush couches
Warmth in your family’s arms
And safety between the large pillows
On either side of you
Well, what happens when your parents
Aren’t
Home
When you have no siblings or babysitter
You stay home alone, of course
Instead of burdening yourself with
Things you’re supposed to be doing
Such as chores
Or schoolwork
That’s overdue
You decide to watch an old show
You have seen for a while
For a bit of nostalgia
A horror movie, no less
You settle on the couch
A large window behind said couch
Turn on the television
But before the thousands of
Miniscule colored pixels fill your screen
You see the silhouette of a human
Such as yourself
On the black screen’s oily reflection
If just you sitting on the couch
Nothing to worry about
You think to yourself
Halfway through
You pause the movie
The part where the chase has begun
You throw some popcorn into the microwave
And slam the microwave door shut before punching in the time
Again seeing the same silhouette
You look around
Nothing
It’s just you
You think again
You return to the safety of your couch
Unpausing the movie
The climax of the horror is close
You hear shifting behind you
You look behind the couch
Nothing
You’re just paranoid since your parents are working
It’s okay
You keep watching the movie
The part of deception
The part where everyone is tricked
The most vital point in the movie
The feeling of safety
You stand up
Something isn’t right
You look out the window behind your couch
There’s a person
You scream in sync
With the person on the television
The murder scene
You’re connecting the dots
The turning point
Of is it too late
Or can you still save yourself
You run to your room
Punching in the oh so dear numbers
That should save anyone
Your phone dies.
All you can do is wait
Seconds feel like hours
Was it just a trick of the light?
You wait a few more minutes
You leave the closet
Going to the living room
Precautionary checking the window
No person..
It’s safe
It’s just a trick of the light
You return the movie to the last point you were at
Where they find the truth
You settle again
Calm but alert
Your movie comes to an end
You watch the credits
As they are rolling
You go to throw away your popcorn
You go back to the couch
Sit
And then the additional
Little part
That warrants of a part two occurs
The gasp
Of the characters
Isn’t as surprising as when
The person you saw
In the window
In the microwave
And in the television
Was inside all along
Underneath the couch
Excited to spring out like a terrifying
Mangled spider of a human
Unlike the nice
Silhouette in the reflection
Waiting
Watching
And waiting
For your cycle of emotions to pass
To get the best reaction of horror
And create the best live action horror
With no part two
Unless?
