Here we are again
The same old home
The same old couch
The same old windows
And horrifying reflections
The same old feeling
Except this time
You have an added sense of fear
You aren’t as
Easily fooled
You pay attention to the
Reflection, unlike yours
Staring back at you
The only difference is that your family
Is home this time
A planned family meet-up
The only problem with this
Is that it’s one of those boring ones
Where you sit on the couch dying
To have some fun
With your random cousins
With said cousins
of unknown origin
You sit on the same couch
As last time
Your spine feels as though ice
Is being rubbed against it
You do the same routine
Looked outside
Nothing
That was a different life
This one may be different
Up to this point, it’s gone well so far
Your cousins decide to go outside
In the dark
To play
They play hide and seek
You sit backward on the couch
Watching them laugh
Giggle
Scream
And enjoy themselves
You see them hide and find one another
Their ever so tiny shadows
Hiding behind things
And bodies unrecognizable
As a result of the dark skies
And hidden moon
Run acrosst the pitch black backyard
Tiny shadows
Except for one big shadow
One oblongly taller shadow
Deformed
The shadow comes into closer view
The same
Reflection
From last time
You scream
Your family thinks it’s a game
With your cousins
No worries.
You with your newfound
Observations
And careful thinking
Think of course
He’s inside again
I need to grab my cousins
and run
The parents won’t see it
It didn’t work well last time
You tried to tell them of a horror nearby
You run outside
The giggles
And laughs
Even screams
Are gone
Silence
You look around
Maybe it’s part of their game
You yell out in urgency
That something is inside
When something that
Looks like your cousins
Pops up from a bush
Soullessly saying, come play
The reflection slowly
Stands up from behind the bush
And you realize
You never had any cousins
No extended family
And if you did, you certainly don’t now
You’d be joining them soon enough
In a game that wasn’t hide and seek
But hide and never be found
As the reflections shadows neared yours
And your reflection
Shattered
