It was like any other Halloween: it was October 31st, full of costumes, and full of delicious treats lined to the brim in all the children’s baskets. iUniversity Prep students all throughout Texas were celebrating by putting on their Halloween costumes and gobbling down every last piece of candy. Teachers were working away preparing spooky activities for their children and students. But, Wisely was not aware of the trick or treating associated with this special occasion, and she logged on to Google Chat and Canvas to complete her tasks.
Someone rang the doorbell. Odd. Wisely thought. I never get unannounced visitors this late. OH! A package must’ve been delivered. I ordered that pumpkin last week to bake into a lovely pie with Cooking Club…it must be that! Mmm, pumpkin pieeee.
Wisely bounced up and walked to the door, putting one orange foot down, and then the other. Once she reached the door, she saw a girl dressed as a zombie holding a basket. “AHHH! I don’t want to give you my brains! HOOT HOOT! Go away please, zombie!” The child just looked the purple owl straight into her eyes and gave a very surprised look. “Uhh, ma’am, I came to trick or treat? This is a costume?”
“Oh, treat or trick? What in the purple and orange is that?” Wisely said, her heart still beating from the scare. “Trick or treat! It’s uhh, basicallyyy, when like people dress up and like uhh ring your doorbell and get free candy? I dunno, I just want some cAnDyYyYY”
Wisely ran into her house and grabbed her stash of candy. She’d much rather have this zombie steal her candy rather than her brains. She grabbed a large handful, as much as her purple, feathered hand would let her, and then dumped it into the scary-looking pumpkin basket the girl was carrying. “Okay, well, thank you for visiting! Bye!”
Before the zombie could reply and steal her brains, Wisely slammed the door and locked it very tight. Then, Wisely hopped on to her stool. She pulled open her computer and began asking her coworkers and students what exactly was going on.
“Guys, you would never believe what just happened. A zombie came at my door asking for candy! Can you believe that? Then she said she was “trick or treating”…do any of you know what that means?” she frantically typed into Google Chat.
Mrs. Baker replied, “Woahh Wisely, calm down. Yes, trick or treating is a tradition on Halloween, which is today! People dress up and wear costumes of their choice, and then they go door-to-door asking for candy.” A student replied “it’s okay cuz owls don’t trick or treat lol dw”. This worried Wisely. Why don’t owls trick or treat? Does that mean I can’t trick or treat? Wisely grabbed a white table cloth, drew two eye holes and one beak hole, and cut them out. Afterwards, she put on the costume she had made for herself, and walked out the door.

Mrs. Beakley and Mrs. Barton were having an awesome day. Mrs. Beakley wished her adorable kittens “Happy Halloween!” and Mrs. Barton ate some wonderful candy she had saved for this one holiday. They met at Mrs. Beakley’s house to come up with some science experiments that would be spooky as well as fantastic! The teachers were going to show their students the experiments in Live Lesson the next week.
The doorbell rang. A lot of kids had been stopping by to ask for candy. Mrs. Barton grabbed her science themed candy basket and walked on over to the door. By the time she opened it, there was no one in sight.
“Huh…Mrs. Beakley, the doorbell rang, but there’s no one there!” Mrs. Barton exclaimed. “Must be another one of those ding-dong ditchers. Don’t worry about it, haha!” Mrs. Beakley laughed in reply. They moved on and didn’t think too much of it.
The doorbell rang again. Mrs. Beakley got up this time. She picked up Mrs. Barton’s candy basket and went to the door. There was a small shadow of a ghost. “Aww, must be a small kiddo coming to trick-or-treat. So adorable!!” She opened the door, and the owner of the shadow was not visible anywhere. “Huh…that’s odd.” Mrs. Barton also wondered what was going on.
Mrs. Travis was working away grading English essays and Flightwrites right before she was about to log off and get into costume. “Ding-dong!” rang the doorbell. Awesome! I have a really good selection of candy this Halloween, thought Mrs. Travis. She put her hand on the handle of the door and saw an oddly shaped ghost waiting. As she turned the knob and made sure candy didn’t fall, and eerie whoosh pushed a gust of wind into her house and the ghost disappeared. Mrs. Travis wondered what was going on…A kid couldn’t cause that huge of a gust of wind! Some pinging began on her laptop, and Mrs. Travis peered carefully down the hallway. Google chat wasn’t open either…? She carefully approached the laptop and saw that her live lesson room from this morning was still open and some students were trying to get into Open Office.
Phew!
Mrs. Griffin shook and shuffled her candy basket. Filled to the brim again! I’m so excited to eat it all. Mrs. Griffin thought as she licked her lips excited to consume all the candy she desired. “Ding!”
The trick or treating was already over in Mrs. Griffin’s area, but she assumed this little ghost was new to the neighborhood and didn’t know. But, this ghost was shaped differently than a child would be. Yet, she opened the door, and saw that the little ghost she had noticed had disappeared!
All the teachers hopped on to Google Chat and asked each other what was happening. They decided to meet in Mrs. Travis’ Open Office which was currently vacant because all the students left and went trick or treating after getting help. “Mrs. Travis, do you know what is going on? I saw this little ghost and they disappeared as soon as I opened the door!” asked Mrs. Beakley.
“I have no idea! I had the same thing happen to me! It was terrifying.” replied Mrs. Travis. All the other teachers agreed. Mr. Duban was the only teacher in the meeting who had not been visited by the mysterious ghost yet. “I have no idea what y’all are talking about! I haven’t seen any ghost-”
The doorbell immediately rang. “Answer!”, “Go see!”, “Maybe this ghost is visiting everyone!”, “Ohhh noo I’m scareddd” the teachers all exclaimed at once. Mr. Duban walked over to the door and saw the ghost shadow. “Hmm.” He opened the door and experienced the same situation the teachers were talking about. Except one tiny detail.
As the ghost had run away, they left a feather. One very small, brightly purple feather. “OHH!” yelled Mr. Duban. This scared the living daylights out of all the teachers on Adobe Connect. “What happened, Mr. Duban??”, “Yes, what happened?”, “Are you okay, Mr. Duban?” all the teachers anxiously asked over mic.
“Y’all…” Mr. Duban came laughing with the singular feather and held it up on webcam. “OHHH!” all the teachers said, and they laughed for a solid 10 minutes before they all met up at the supposed ghost’s house. They brought a big basket and contributed all their leftover candy into that basket. Then, Mr. Duban rang the doorbell.
“SURPRISE!!” all the teachers shouted. Wisely had opened the door and jumped back in shock. She had been crying because no one had opened their door, so she had assumed that no one wanted to give her candy because she was an owl. Little did she know, she never waited long enough for the teachers to open the door and give her candy! Wisely teared up and had a huge smile. She hugged all the teachers and wished them:
“Happy Halloween!”
