What Career Do I Choose? All about C&C Week
At five-years-old, you may have wanted to be a sports-star. Then, at seven, a pilot. Suddenly, at nine, you wanted to be a doctor. Time goes by, and by eleven, you wanted to be a lawyer. All you know now is that you have to go to college to get a career, but do you? It’s all so confusing, but there’s a special week, College and Career week, made to clear-up some confusion.
What is C&C Week?
College and Career Week, or C&C Week, is all about preparing students for the college application process and exploring different career options. Students will receive resources for planning their paths of college, military service, other jobs, and more. They will also be able to hear adults speak about their own experiences, lessons, and what to expect in careers.
Why Should I Participate?
It’s certainly agreeable that in many cases, it can be hard to find information about the commonly daunting college application process, especially if your family is from another country or simply doesn’t have much experience on the topic. For instance, it’s often difficult for one to know which college is best suited for them and their career. Someone may also find themself in need of scholarships and have no idea on how to apply for one, or which to apply to for that matter. Or, maybe a student wants to get a head start on their career path. Even with the internet’s endless quizzes, videos, and instructions, it may be hard to get a good grasp on easy to understand information that suits you, or even just to know how to start. Whereas, this opportunity- placed right at your fingertips- may be the perfect way to get information directly from adults with real, first hand experiences. The topics discussed in C&C Week are essential skills in the college and adult world; such as, searching and applying to scholarships and colleges, applying for jobs, and the always useful: building a resume. Some Owls who have already attended previous College and Career Weeks found them so useful that they plan to return:
Autumn Friesenhahn, a 9th grader at iUP, recalled, “I liked hearing from Alumni. It really showed me how we can succeed,” about a previous event. When asked about participating again, she responded, “Yes, I am a presenter for the Owl Pals. I’ve been thinking much more about college and my future career recently, so it’ll be helpful to learn this stuff.”
Additionally, Rylee, an iUP freshman, reported, “I participated the first year to support the club, and since then I’ve done it to get the amazing information.” In fact, she said, “since I’m a Freshman now, it’s very influential for me to learn how to create a resumé and to learn about scholarships, among other things. I am very excited for C&C Week this year, because I know that we can help so many people learn more about their options for their future.
