It’s baseball time in Texas! GCISD DECA had an incredible opportunity to partner with the Texas Rangers for an exclusive experience at Globe Life Field. Students toured the stadium, connected with industry professionals, watched a game, and even met the legendary Chuck Morgan — Executive Vice President of Ballpark Entertainment & Productions!
During the visit, students gained valuable insights from various departments within the Rangers’ organization, learning firsthand about the business side of sports and how to break into the industry. Chuck Morgan also shared inspiring advice, emphasizing the importance of education. He encouraged students to stay in school and earn their degrees, reflecting on how having one would have opened even more doors in his career.
We also had the chance to hear from top Rangers executives, including:
Nick Richardson – Vice President, Ticket Retention & New Business Development
Tim Johnston – Director, Creative Content & Marketing
Steve Pitarra – Manager, Business Partnerships
Lauren Hall – Account Executive, New Business Development
Each person offered a different perspective, and similar yet varying insight. The key takeaways were the importance of networking, putting in hard work, and the reminder that no matter where you start, you can achieve anything. Most of the speakers started as an intern and worked their way up to the position that they have today, reminding students that with hardwork and resilience that you can achieve anything. All the speakers emphasized that ‘your network is your net worth’ and ‘you never know who your boss could be,’ highlighting the importance of presenting yourself professionally and treating everyone with respect.
After the speaker event, students got to enjoy a live game as the Texas Rangers faced off against the Oakland Athletics. To top it all off, each student received a $25 concession voucher, which made cheering on the Rangers even better with ballpark snacks in hand!
Thank you to the Texas Rangers for providing GCISD students with this awesome experience! We’re so grateful for the opportunity to hear from inspiring speakers, tour the stadium, watch a game, and learn valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. It was an unforgettable day filled with important insight, motivation, and a whole lot of fun! We didn’t learn how to play for the Rangers, we learned how to make the Rangers run from behind the scenes!
