We kicked off the 2024-2025 DECA season in the most unforgettable way with a DECA Day at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys! GCISD students, along with DECA members from across the DFW area, came together for an immersive experience that blended sports and business together!
Students had the unique opportunity to tour exclusive areas of the stadium which included the Cowboys players’ locker room and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ locker room. With the recent rise in popularity of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team, standing in the same room where the squad prepares for game day left many students in awe. The players’ locker room was equally inspiring, with personalized lockers, championship memorabilia, and photos that captured the legacy of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.
After the tour we returned back to the field where various interactive business stations were set up, each designed to challenge our creativity, critical thinking, and marketing skills. One of the activities was inspired by a popular business show, Shark Tank. Where we were put into small teams, and had just minutes to brainstorm a new product or service. Then, we had to outline a marketing plan, and pitch it to Cowboys executives.
At another station, we faced a real-world marketing scenario: how to increase ticket sales for Cowboys games. Groups proposed all kinds of innovative strategies, from pop-up fan experiences around Dallas, themed nights, exclusive giveaways, and even VIP lottery packages. It was exciting to think like marketers and get feedback directly from professionals who do this work every day.
In addition to the activities, there was a dedicated networking station where we connected with Cowboys staff, and DECA students from other schools. These conversations reminded us how important networking and relationship-building are in the business world.
Thank you to the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium for hosting such a fantastic, educational, and inspiring day. This wasn’t just a field trip, but it was a chance to learn real-world business skills, connect with industry leaders, and kick off our DECA season with energy!
