France’s 9/11
The Terrorist Attack in France Leaves 129 Dead
In 2001 on September 11th the United States went through it’s first ever terrorist attack that left the country in fear and hardship. All around the world people showed their support including France who put an American flag in front of the Eiffel Tower to show their respect. On November 13th, France suffered from their own 9/11 and have been receiving support from neighboring countries and also from the United States.
Friday night men with ak-47s and suicide belts attacked in 6 locations killing at least 129 people and injuring more than 342 people. One of the locations of the attacks was at a concert hall where people were being held hostage. When the police stormed the hall, 89 people in the hall were already dead from the terrorists shooting them one by one. Other deaths were located at a soccer stadium where men with suicidal bomb vests went in and shot and set the bombs off. The now army group known as Isis has claimed responsibility for the attack in Paris and according to President François Hollande, an act of war. “It is an act of war that was prepared, organized and planned from abroad, with complicity from the inside, which the investigation will help establish.”(Francois Hollande, New York Times).
The country is left in mourning and the world in shock. Many are showing support by flying the France Flag as well as lighting up historic monuments and landmarks with the colors of the France Flag. Social media has also contributed including Facebook where you can change your profile pic to show France’s flag in support of their losses. France after 9/11 was there for the United States, and it is time now we do the same for them and show our support.
