TOP 5 HAUNTED HOUSES
Haunted houses have a huge role in Halloween. The first recorded haunted house was Orton and Spooner Ghost House; this haunted house opened in 1915 in the U.K. Ever since then haunted houses have progressed, and have gotten bigger and scarier. Especially in a place like Texas; Texas is huge so there is bound to have hundreds, maybe a thousand or more haunted houses. Although we probably could go through all the haunted houses, this would be about 100 pages. So, today I’m just going to give you the top 5 haunted houses in the Lone Star State:
- The Haunted Hotel (Beaumont, Texas)
The Haunted Hotel began in 1982 in an old hotel built in 1893, the Rosemont Hotel. Although the owners brought most of the haunt to the hotel, they quickly realized that their haunted hotel was actually haunted. This year is their 34th year of being open. Reviews say that they do not disappoint. They are not only open for Halloween but on Friday, November 13th and Christmas.
- House of Torment (Austin, Texas)
This haunted house includes three attractions sure to terrify you: 1. Dawn of Evil: This house is based on a zombie apocalypse. You must try getting out alive before the zombies get you and turn you into one of them. 2. The Frenzy: this house was created to bring out your most demented and darkest fears. You should encounter ghastly humanoids, deranged clowns, and maniacal beasts to haunt you and your dreams. 3. Graveside Manor: This house is about lost souls with a dark past that is ready to get its revenge on you. The general pass for this haunted house is $26.99. They are also open a little after Halloween.
- Cutting Edge Haunted House (Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas)
Cutting Edge is one of the most known and popular haunted houses in DFW. It’s known for its dark attraction filled with live actors, awesome special effects, and incredible monsters. It’s located in a 100-year old meat packing plant, but they have recreated it to be a human processing area. It takes approximately 55 minutes to walk though this haunted house and has some of the best ratings out there.
- Thrillvania Haunted House (Terrell, Texas)
Thrillvania haunted house has a twisted history to it. They say “It is often said that a house cannot be haunted unless it has a history”. It all begins in 1901 when Baron Michael Verdun was a psychopathic werewolf who did experiments on people and animals and would create malformed creatures. The creatures with hideous and Verdun considered his creations as failures. He would set them loose on his 50 acres to fend for themselves because he wanted nothing to do with them. So, while you walk through this haunted house make sure to watch out for Verdun’s creations so they don’t snatch you and be their new prey.
- Dark Hour Haunted House (Plano, Texas)
The main goal for Dark Hour haunted house is: “to produce the highest quality haunt experience available”. And the creators sure have done it. They first opened in 2013 and since then became a huge hit. They not only have just a Halloween event but almost a year round event for Dark Hour. They have shows in February: Love is Blind March: St. Patrick Slay Weekend, April: Walpurgisnacht, May: Spring Fever, June: Dog Days of Summer, Sep-October: Dark Hour Haunted House, and December: Wreck The Halls.
Haunted houses are not for everyone, but if you do love the thrill of getting scared then you should definitely try one of these haunted houses. Some are still open in November so if you miss them in October don’t worry because they are still open in the beginning of November.
