SPOILER ALERT: PUMPKIN SPICE

What’s actually in your beloved holiday drink may surprise you.

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

Fall is here, y’all. It’s the season full of pumpkin spice, pumpkin pies, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes—the list could go on forever. But today we’re going to talk about pumpkin spice: it’s a fake! Every time you go to Starbucks this fall, keep this in the back of your mind: pumpkin spice is not what you think it is.

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes are, by far, a favorite for many people. Starbucks has sold over 200 million of them! The drink is so popular it even has its own Instagram account— yes, the drink. The famous Starbucks drink was introduced in 2003, but it took three months of trying to figure out this complicated recipe. Tasters had to eat pumpkin pie and sip on some espresso only to figure out how to blend the flavors together.

Now, on to the mind-blowing moment we’ve all been waiting for. What you think might be in the viral Starbucks drink is definitely not! There is no pumpkin in the Pumpkin Spice Latte! Pumpkin spice has no pumpkin in it—none at all. In fact, most of the drink is made up of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg. Although this drink may be a favorite to many, it’s your choice to drink it or not. What will you do? Drink— or don’t?
