THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Everything you need to know about NJHS/NHS here at iUniversity Prep.
Being inducted into National Junior Honor Society or National Honor Society is an honor bestowed upon academic and leadership achievement. Universities across the nation continuously search for students who portray the values of genuine character and service that the National Honor Society stands for. This all sounds fine and dandy, but you can’t just be accepted without qualifying for the terms under which the club requires. This may seem daunting, but that’s why I’m here to help.
At iUniversity Prep, induction into NJHS occurs annually in the Spring of 8th grade year. However, you can also be inducted all years of high school into NHS if not inducted previously. You must have at least a 4.7 on a weighted 5.0 GPA scale. If you meet this GPA qualification, you will receive an invitation letter to letting you know you have the necessary grades to apply. Upon receiving the letter, if you choose to do so, you’ll submit an application essay to then be considered by the school based on your service, leadership, and character.
Once accepted into the chapter, you will have the opportunity to run for office. Completion of an annual total of 25 service hours is necessary in order to be in good standings for the following year. But that’s not all you have to keep up in order for your spot to stay reserved. You will have to keep the required GPA in addition to minding your manners with your teachers and staying out of trouble.
My greatest tip on acceptance into this chapter is to try your absolute best on your school work. In order to achieve a 4.7 GPA, you need to be making the highest grades you possibly can. If your trying your best, but still can’t make the grades, contact your teachers and ask if you can submit corrections. Believe it or not, this can help your grade tremendously, you just have to put forth the effort. Finally, don’t stress about it. If you don’t make it one year, there’s always the next!
Membership within the National Honor Society is a huge honor that comes with certain expectations and requirements. However, it is also a lot of fun being able to serve the community amidst being a part of something that will eventually help with college acceptance.
