ROLE MODELS
A Look at Sports Greats
The last two decades we have seen some very good professional athletes, but who we truly have to look back at are the role models, the nice ones, and the people who were never cocky, mean, or harassing others and instead the ones who are humble, nice and never say anything that they shouldn’t.
Michael Jordan
Sure everybody says he is the best basketball player of all time, which he probably is. He was a huge role model. Michael was always kind and humble and would still be serious about basketball. Even though a lot of people did not like him (which I do not understand), he would not get angry or be cruel to those people. He did get in trouble with the referee sometimes, but that was only when he disapproved of the call. Michael was a huge basketball role model that will never be forgotten.
Peyton Manning
Football is one of those sports where you are trying to bring people to the ground, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it in your personal life which is what a lot of players do, and it hurts them, but there is one man who is a big role model for the NFL: Peyton Manning. He, unlike his brother Eli Manning, would always agree with the rules. He went where he was told in the NFL draft, and had an exceptional time there in Indianapolis playing for the Colts. Peyton always gives 110% and never blames anybody for anything that was his fault. He is one of the best quarterbacks of all time, and has broken a lot of NFL records. He also is, in my opinion, one of the nicest guys in sports.
Derek Jeter
Derek Jeter
Okay, you can’t even argue with me that this guy is one of the best baseball players ever. After twenty years as a New York Yankee, he hung up his hat this season having made it to the top ten in many statistical categories including ranked 6th in the all time hit list with 3459 hits. His popularity is shown greatly because he has had the top selling jersey in the past six of seven years, only missing the one year he sat out because of injury. Derek Jeter is a role model because of how he acts during the game, always keeping his composure. In fact, he was never thrown out of any game, something even Michael Jordan can’t say. A five time World Series champion, 13 time MLB All Start Selection and so many other accomplishments, Derek will be remember both as a baseball player and my personal role model.

An outstanding, well written article by one who may be a future Derek Jeter.
