SUSTAINABLE SWAPS FOR STUDENTS
Easy Ways to Lessen Your Environmental Impact
Most of us have probably heard about how important it is to make eco-friendly choices. Maybe you use canvas bags or carry a reusable water bottle, but what else could you do? Here are six unique ways to lessen your impact on the environment.
Dental Hygiene
On average, people throw away 450 million toothbrushes a year. A more sustainable way to brush your teeth is by using a bamboo toothbrush. Bamboo grows quickly and hardly requires any water to process, making it an eco-friendly plant. These toothbrushes have charcoal bristles that help clean your teeth without harsh chemicals. The best part is that instead of throwing it away when you’re done, it can be composted! There are also compostable floss options to finish your routine.
Bar Soaps
Body wash and shampoo are essential, but the plastic bottles they come in are not. An alternative to those products are bar soaps. Bar soaps are generally inexpensive and there are many alternative vegan options. Hand soaps can also be switched out for bar soaps.
Reusable kitchen supplies
Some of us like to snack on the go. Ziploc bags are commonly used because they are easy to use and dispose of. Instead of plastic snack bags, try reusable silicone bags. They can be washed with regular dishes then used again. Another kitchen swap is reusable beeswax wrap rather than aluminum or plastic wrap.
Secondhand clothing
The clothing industry is one of the largest polluting industries. Instead of buying new clothes or shoes all the time, buying second hand clothes can help reduce the negative impact on the environment. When you secondhand shop, you can also find some unique and special items. It can also help keep some more money in your pocket.
School Supplies
There are so many sustainable options for school supplies. Notebooks made from recycled paper are an alternative to regular notebooks. For efficient printing, use post-consumer white paper. Bamboo wooden pencils and refillable pens are alternative writing utensils. These items make the school taking process a little greener.
Reusable Masks
Masks are crucial during these times. However, many end up being thrown away after only one use for safety reasons. Switching to a fabric mask helps keep regular masks out of landfills. They can be washed and sanitized countless times making them a greener and safer option.
Sustainability isn’t as difficult as it may seem. Anyone can do it. Your efforts don’t have to be perfect- simply trying can make a difference.
