The comfort of a house can be compared to no other
The warmth of the dimly lit fireplace
And flaming faces of family members faces smiling
Ever so cheerfully
The safety of the walls in your house
Start feeling less and less comfortable
And become suffocating
Though you don’t know why
It feels like something despicable is about to commence
But you blow it off
It’s just stress from school
You say to yourself reassuringly
That pitiful failure of reassurance sets you back into your
Ever so joyful mood
You go to your living room
Sitting on your one couch out of three
When you hear something in the kitchen
The hairs on the back of your neck sting
You get up and investigate the kitchen
Seeming darker now than usual
No longer do you see the happy memories
That were conceived in this kitchen
You see the terrible memories
The ones you wish to forget
You advance into the kitchen grabbing a pan
The adrenaline piping through your veins
You take a look behind the counter shrouded in a pitch black
Darker than midnight itself
You reach for the light switch
Hearing suttle rusting in the bags under your counter
But unexpectedly
The light switch reaches back
Small spider like twigs curling around your fingers
Your shriek fills the houses void
They pull back into the walls of the house
Your terror hits a peak as you run upstairs
Seeking help from your family
Who
Isn’t in their room
Your confusion and terror mix into an anxiety filled cream puff
You check every room
And in every room
You make the same concerned whisper
Mom?
Dad?
Anyone?….
You stand in the center of your house
Not knowing where to go or what to do
You’ve looked everywhere
You only saw the danger once
Was it still here?
Was it even real?
Maybe this is a dream
You go to your bed
Think happy thoughts
And go to sleep
Or you hoped you would
But you feel
A drip
Drop
Dr-ip
Dr-op
D

I

You don’t want to open your eyes
But you do
Seeing what was causing the saliva like drip
Staring up at the ceiling you see something worse than what you thought you would
It was some spindly creature
With the same twig like spider fingers from the light switch
You stare in paralyzed fear
You glance at the corner of the room
And you see the ones you were looking for
In a web like capsule
You look back up and the creature is no longer there
You feel a movement behind your backboard
And your grabbed under the arms and thrown into the sticky concoction on the roof
Grasping you comfortably and effortlessly
You know you’ll end in the same way your loved ones did
So you embrace the last comfort you’ll ever feel
Before being spun up without a trace.
As this happens you think to yourself
Why didn’t I look up?
