Happy New Year Owls!

I was thinking about how all over the world, we all have some sort of huge thing that happens at midnight on New Year’s Eve. In London they light fireworks by the London Eye, and In NYC the ball on the tower drops and they have confetti all over the place, just to name a few of the sites. I did some research and here’s how they celebrate in other places around the globe!

The world starts the new year at the second biggest celebration in Sydney, Australia, where they have the biggest firework show in the world and have a beautifully illuminated boat parade through the harbor!

In Edinburgh, Scotland they gather many world loved musical acts and ring in the new year partying away and of course, as the Scots love to do, drinking.

In the Vatican the Pope gives the traditional New Year’s mass to a crowd of Christians.

In Mumbai, India they have a huge dance party on the beach.

My favorite one I came across was in Rio, Brazil. The natives flock to the shore in all white clothes and stand in the tide paying homage to the sea goddess Lemanja. Along with the white, they wear red, yellow, and green to bring them romance, prosperity, and good health in the new year.

All around the world we gather with friends and family to celebrate our lives and prepare for another year with all of us together. May this one be the best yet!
