TEXAS GUN LAWS

TEXAS GUN LAWS

Gun laws in Texas are relatively lenient, but that’s not the case in a lot of other states. With all the news going on about police officers getting shot, and even more controversial, people getting shot by police, there has been a lot of questions on the future of gun laws. I believe that the legal possession of guns should continue to be lawful within the United States.

It is clearly stated in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution that “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” which means it is our right as United States citizens to bear arms. I personally believe this is important because it allows us to defend ourselves as well as our families. Another reason I believe that guns laws are important is that if guns were made illegal, the people who get guns illegally will continue to do that. And when that happens, the only people with guns are the ones we are trying to defend ourselves against.

I think that where Texas stands on gun laws should be the standard for our country. As long as we continue to do background checks on people looking to purchase guns, and have age restrictions for purchasing them, I think the United States will continue to be safer than if guns were illegal.
