SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS

Swimming with dolphins in Honduras.

Last summer I fulfilled a lifelong dream. I got to swim with dolphins. My family and I went to Rotan Honduras, for about a day, and we did a dolphin excursion.

First were the questions and photos. They taught us all kinds interesting facts about dolphin, such as how to tell them apart. Apparently, dolphins have distinct features just like humans. They are told apart by their colors, patterns, etc. It was so much more than just a learning experience though. They showed us all kinds of tricks. It was so exciting. Did you know that if you leave a big enough hole between you and another person, dolphins will swim through it as a game? Anyway, it’s picture time. They had us hold the dolphin. My mom and I held the dolphin from underneath, while my brother stood to the side. Then when she was told the dolphin flicked up her tail, and posed. Afterwards we would bend over turn our heads and she would give us a kiss.

It’s finally time to get to the actual swimming. They gave us a lifejacket, snorkel, and scuba fins. Sadly the only dolphins I really saw were the cutest little family. There was a mother and her two daughters. Although the when I put my ears under the water, I was able to hear them communicating. It was incredible. Even though, I didn’t actually swim with the dolphins, it was definitely an unforgettable experience.
