DEAR EVAN HANSEN REVIEW
If you have ever seen Pitch Perfect, then you have probably already fallen in love with the adorkable character of Benji, played perfectly by actor Ben Platt. Recently, Ben Platt has taken a break from the big screen to go back to his Broadway roots as he headlines in the new award winning musical Dear Evan Hansen. My best friend, who has an incredible passion for theater, was generous enough to buy us tickets to see Dear Evan Hansen off Broadway when I visited her in New York last March. At the time, the show was merely in review, but with the mind-blowing acting and heartfelt music, I knew it was destined to go far. Dear Evan Hansen is the story of a socially awkward teenager named Evan who writes daily encouragements to himself. It just so happens that one of his letters ends up in the middle of a suicide, and he before he knows it, he is the last connection a town has to their fallen member. His new found popularity overtakes his life until he doesn’t recognize himself anymore. This coming-of-age story with a twist had me laughing, crying, and everything in between from the minute the lights came up to the final curtain. To top off an unbelievable experience, I got to meet Ben Platt after the show, and yes, he is as adorkable in person as he is on stage! I can’t wait to return to New York to see the show again on Broadway! To find out more about Dear Evan Hansen, go to dearevanhansen.com #youwillbefound
