Chocolates and Songs

With Valentine’s day coming up, one would most likely be thinking about cards and candy before anything else, but what about some quality music to set the mood? It might not be as sweet as the holiday’s associated chocolates, but there’s no harm in listening to some love-inspiring tunes! From classic hits to today’s most popular songs, there’s quite a wide variety of amazing music based on this emotion. In spirit of the holiday rolling around, this article will recommend some great musical feats for you to spend this special day. Stay “tune”d!

Tunes to Set the Mood

So, it’s almost Valentine’s day, and we need some atmosphere setting music. Well, the authors of this article put their heads together and came up with an incredible list for you to tune into!

Thinkin Bout You by Frank Ocean- For the people out there that can’t stop thinking about that special someone. It’s always the thought that counts on Valentine’s Day, and of course, it’s a great song as well.

I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston- Probably the most iconic love song of all time that has a timeless and universal message of always having love for your significant other. Of course, it would be impossible to write about this song without mentioning Whitney Houston’s incredible singing ability that’s especially shown on this track.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell- A song that shows the importance of loyalty in a successful relationship that can’t be deterred by any mountains, rivers, valleys, etc. No matter the obstacles, none of them could ever stop true love.

We Found Love by Rihanna & Calvin Harris- Even when things look hopeless, love can still be found along with the good times that can be created by listening to this energetic dance-floor ready song.

Family by The Chainsmokers & Kygo- Valentines day doesn’t have to just be about love in a romantic context. Instead, this song is about family, with a message about how important it is to have them by one’s side.

ME by Taylor Swift – Taylor Swift struts her confidence in herself as she sings about how she’s one in a million.

iUP’s Favorite Love Songs

iUP teacher Mrs. Goossen believes that music is a vital part of Valentine’s Day. She says that if she had to pick a favorite love/Valentine’s Day song, she would pick “Speechless – Dan + Shay” because it was her “first dance song”. If you like to jam to country music on Valentine’s Day, this is a great option! Senior Owl Brooke Bolinger says that she’s “treating Valentine’s as a kind of self love day” this time around, so she picks “Flowers by Miley Cyrus” because she “can take care of [herself] and love [herself] better than anyone else can”. Finally, iUP student Autumn Friesenhahn says “Love Story” by Taylor Swift is her favorite song for this day. She also agrees that music is essential to Valentine’s Day.

Love All Around

There’s a wide spectrum of music to listen to on Valentine’s day ranging from loving others to self love. Regardless of what type of music you’re looking for, there’s going to be plenty of quality songs to select from.
