It’s that time of year again, which means it’s bring out those Christmas trees and stockings. Though Christmas is not just good for presents, it is also time for the classic production of “The Nutcracker”. Now most of us have seen the normal Nutcracker at least once, but have you ever thought of seeing one called the “Nutty Nutcracker”?. You can probably tell that the name says it all, being that it has the main plot of the normal show with quite a few twists that may include the polar bears of the Coca Cola commercials in the snow scene. This is no ordinary performance and  certainly one to remember, because not only does it happen for one show only but every year it is different, because all of the twists they include are that of the current events that have happened over the last year. Since this is a very special show the only company that does one here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is Texas Ballet Theater. This company is also the only professional company in the area doing the normal Nutcracker for 2 weekends in Dallas followed by 3 or 4 weeks in Fort Worth. It is much easier to get tickets for the classic performance, but I definitely recommend the Nutty Nutcracker, which takes place in Fort Worth on December 15th at the Bass Hall.

Now there is no telling what this company may come up with each year for the show. Last year the entire first act was Harry Potter due to the fact that the much anticipated movie “Fantastic Beasts” and “Where to Find Them” came out not too long before. Though they do put a lot of movies in it, they also put current events like the election from 2016 in it as well. Some of the company member may even be in the audience and pretend to be an audience member coming on the stage later to act like they can’t dance. It is quite the entertaining performance, because there is no telling what they will do. Not only is it unpredictable, it is the only show in the entire ballet season that Texas Ballet Theater will allow you to take pictures. This is because they only do the show once, so if pictures get out it doesn’t matter because the production has already taken place and it will never be exactly the same again.

This show has everything from famous movie characters to a popular singer that goes by the name of Lyle Lovett. Each year the singer will come out onto the stage and sing a few christmas songs to further entertain the audience. He has been doing the show for as long as I can remember and is a crucial aspect to it, because without him the show is not complete.

 If you plan to get tickets make sure to get them as soon as possible because they sell out every year due to demand. If you are able to snatch up tickets, be sure to expect the unexpected because it is one of the best shows I have ever seen live.
