It’s never too late to learn

You sit in front of the beautiful, elegant grand Yamaha piano you’ve had in your family living room for years, wishing you had the hands of Beethoven. You press on random keys, as you deafen the ears of everyone around you. You watch people cover your favorite songs while playing their instrument, so exquisitely. The sound of the piano is captivating. “I wish I could do that” you say to yourself. “I’ll never know how to play like that” you think.

     That is the reason you won’t be able to learn. The key to success while playing a musical instrument is simply faith and confidence. With the right determination and dedication you can succeed at anything. I believe every individual is born with musical talent, you just have to set your mind to the right mentality and you will learn in no time.

   I received my first keyboard when I was just eight years old. I remember telling myself I’d never be able to play. I sat in front of my piano for hours just pressing keys and observing the sounds they each made. For a while I continued to observe, nothing more. One day it hit me, I wanted to play, I wanted to execute something so captivating, so beautiful it could capture anyone’s attention. I was determined to learn, and so I did.

    For the next two years I taught myself the chords and all the sounds each of the keys made. I labeled all the keys on my keyboard and got to work. I watched many videos and wrote down detailed notes. Soon I started playing songs one handed, I was so thrilled that I had learned something. Overtime I got faster and I

decided to take it to the next level.

    At around the age of twelve I began to play with both hands, performing more advanced songs. At first I was slow but I knew with time I would improve. Never in my life had I felt more accomplished. I was able to teach myself how to perform on a musical instrument with no instructor or help from another individual, I was all on my own.

     When I was thirteen I had mastered many songs ranging from Beethoven, to modern day singers such as Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes. Sometimes I would perform in front of my family and friends and they were enthralled by the performance. With proper  time and determination I believe anything can be executed. Never give up, you can do it. Remember that it’s never too late to start and if my nine year old self can do it I know you can. So go ahead pick up that guitar that’s been collecting dust, open up the piano no one has touched for years and open up that talent in you, you never knew you had.
