XFINITY AND TRUCK RACE RECAP

First race of Chase for both series

XFINITY AND TRUCK RACE RECAP

This year is the first year of the Chase for both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series.  Here are the recaps of both races.

The Truck Series race at New Hampshire this year can be described by two words:  William Byron.  Byron was dominate, leading 161 of the 175 laps, en route to a series-high sixth win of the season.  “We got redemption from last week….To get a win now when it counts in the Chase feels so good,” Byron said.  “I was so down on myself last week, making that mistake.  So to come back and get this win is really, really good for our team.”  Teammate Christopher Bell almost won the race, getting within three truck lengths of Byron on the last lap, but couldn’t get there.  “I was afraid the 4 (truck of Bell) was going to catch us there at the end,” Byron admitted.  Daniel Hemric had a brake problem, and finished 28th, so he is last in Chase standings.  Here are the Chase standings.  This is everyone’s first year in the Chase, as this is the first year of it, so * will mean rookie.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series at Kentucky was full of action.  In the end, it was 41 year old Elliott Sadler taking the win in the first ever Xfinity Series Chase race.  Sadler took the lead from Ryan Blaney with 4 laps to go to take his third win of the year and 13th of his career.  “We fought through a lot tonight,” Sadler said in Victory Lane.  “I’m going to get a little emotional on you.  I’ve been in the hospital all week with my mom in ICU watching her fight and fight through a lot of pain and suffering.  (She) made her way back home tonight to watch the race.  Mom,  love you.  She leads so much by example.”  That made the win so much more emotional than it already was.  He is the only driver to have clinched a berth in the round of 8 in the Chase.  Erik Jones wrecked into Ty Dillon with thirteen laps to go, taking the two dominate cars out of the race.  Jones led 100 of the 200 laps, and Dillon led 48 laps.  “I just got sucked around,” Jones said.  “I tried to slow down but Ty was holding me down there pretty tight on the restart, slamming doors through (turns) 1 and 2.  It was my fault but it’s a pretty tough aero situation to be in.”  Here are the Chase standings.  * will signify a rookie.
