The ghosts danced in the dark with no music
They were soundless and light with every step that
never touched the ground.
They danced over each others graves
in the clothes they were later to rest in,
twirling and soundlessly
holding each other close like they might fade away.
The ghosts danced in the dark with no music
The children and their tiny feet tripped over one another
as they held arms and hands, translucent
tiny bodies glowing in the graveyard.
The adults moved swiftly; some young, old, tall short,
some knew each other and some were strangers but
they still danced in the dead of the night like they knew each other all their lives.
The ghosts danced in the dark with no music
For hours and minutes and seconds that blurred together.
No one took a break, no one became dizzy from
twirling over and over again,
the children never asked when the dancing would stop,
no one spoke.
They only stopped as they saw the bright sun rising over the trees in the graveyard, the shadows stretching far and wide.
The ghosts finally parted, and started to wait for night to fall again.
