HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL APPLES
A caramel apple recipe for bad cooks.
Nothing screams Fall like caramel apples. These Fall treats are, in fact, deceptively simple to make (even if you’re like me and you can’t cook at all.
Ingredients:
-Six apples
-Six craft sticks
-Two tablespoons of milk
-One package of individually wrapped caramels
-Parchment paper
-Butter to coat the parchment paper
Directions:
The first and most important step is to unwrap all of the caramels. Yes, it takes a little while, but it’s worth it not to have plastic wrappers on your apples instead of caramel. If you have a sibling (or want revenge on someone) you can ask them to help with this part. Bribery is recommended, but not necessary.
Before you move on to the next step, make sure to grab a pan and line it with parchment paper. Coat the parchment paper lightly with butter while it’s on the pan and set it aside for later.
Once your caramels are unwrapped, place them in a microwave-safe bowl with the milk and microwave them for two minutes. Stir the mixture once and then let it cool for just a little bit.
Now you’re ready to move on to the apples. Twist out each stem and wash the apples. Make sure to dry them thoroughly before moving on. Nobody likes soggy apples (or soggy anything, for that matter). After they’re dry, stab each apple through the core with one craft stick each. Make sure the sticks are at least one inch into the apple.
This part can get a little messy, so make sure you’re not wearing anything fancy. Tie your hair up, unless you think you can rock caramel-covered hair. Take each apple and, holding it by the stick, dip it into the caramel mixture. Be certain to coat them completely.
After each apple is coated, set them aside on the parchment paper. Then, put the pan in the refrigerator for around fifteen minutes or until the caramel coating is firm.
While you’re waiting for the coating to set, here are some caramel apple facts:
-National Candy Apple Day was the 31st of October
-Candymaker William W. Kolb is said to have invented the red candy apple in 1908
-Caramel apples were invented in the 1950s by Dan Walker, a sales representative who worked for Kraft Foods
-In 1960, Vito Raimondi created the first caramel apple machine
Hopefully, you enjoyed your caramel apples. Happy Fall, everyone!
