We all love our school newspaper, iHoot! (You’d better, or I’ll tell Wisely that you don’t). But aside from checking out the Owl Post and occasionally the newest articles, it’s hard to keep up with everything that gets published as we all have busy lives outside of school. Here is a list of hidden gems from each section of the iHoot website, so the next time you’re looking for something new to read, you can refer back to this article and find your next read within a couple minutes. Happy exploring!
Feature
First up we have the Feature section! Our first gem is actually written by our current News, Extra and Feature Section editor, Anika Goswami!
“The History of iUniversity Prep” written by Anika Goswami in 2022
This article sums up why and when iUP was founded, and how the school rose to success. It’s a very short and concise article, packed with facts, and a perfect read for anyone looking to figure out the origins of our school. It’s also a good read if you are in a time crunch, as it doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to read.
“The Neural Network: The Impact of AI on Developing Minds” written by Lily Andrews in 2025
This article was written just last year, making it one of the more recent publications iHoot has seen. It thoughtfully explains both the pros and cons of using AI and how continuous use can affect us as students in the long term. I personally love that Lily includes facts from experts in the field and opinions from our owl professors. This publication is a bit longer—about a 15 minute read.
“The Ultimate Time-Saving School & Study Hack” written by Eve Bamber in 2022
In this article, Eve talks about a very interesting law called “Parkinson’s Law”. She explains what Parkinson’s Law is and how we can use it to take advantage of our time to the fullest. She even conducts a little study of her own, asking students to use Parkinson’s Law and then putting their testimonials into the article. I myself have been meaning to try it based off of all the positive testimonials. Perfect for anyone looking to find better time management techniques, this article takes only 15 minutes to read.
News
Next is the News section! The News section always provides an invaluable look into current world events from an iUP student’s eyes. This year’s News section editor, as I mentioned earlier, is also Anika Goswami. Let’s dive right in and see what our students have to say about current events!
“The Magical Art of Tennis” written by Brooke Bolinger in 2021
I’m a pretty big fan of tennis. I used to play it with my family as a kid and my mom used to play it when she was in school, but I never really knew the rules and how it worked. So when I found this article, I jumped for joy. Brooke perfectly explains all the rules of tennis, from the strokes to points and scoring. She also talks about owls who currently play tennis. It’s very clear and easy to understand, but I suggest taking around 15 minutes to read it so that you can fully understand everything Brooke talks about.
“Changes with bitmoji; A change at iUP?” written by Autumn Friesehahn in 2025
Bitmoji plays a huge role in our school by increasing interactivity in the slides, adding emotion, and just being a fun decoration! But what happens when it changes? Autumn explains the effects of the Bitmoji change in this article, as well as owls’ opinions on the change. It should only take around 10 minutes to read.
“Negative News Vs. Positive News” written by Eylee Pennings in 2021
News intrigues us all. Eylee explains the phenomenon of why we are more attracted to negative news, and how we can balance the negative news we read with more positive news. She even gives tips for staff writers in iHoot about how they can balance out the positive and the negative in their articles (Calling all staff writers, check this out! Super helpful.) This article can be read in around 5 – 10 minutes, depending on how fast you read.
Community
Calling all students! Welcome to the community section! The community section contains articles about travels, extracurricular activities, and individual students’ experiences and stories, making it a place of inclusivity and, well, community! Our current Community section editor is Ana Eicher Davila, who also edits the Owl Post. Let’s see what this section has to offer!
“One World, Different Cultures” written by Brea Blay in 2025
We interact with so many different people on a daily basis, each of whom have very different cultural backgrounds, especially in an online community. Brea provides us with an insightful look into various different cultures by interviewing students. Her article is heartwarming and eye opening, and absolutely beautiful. It takes around 15 minutes to read, making it a nice read for when you need a brain break during school.
“The Importance of Student Journalism at IUP” written by Avika Taneja in 2025
This article focuses on what a vital part iHoot and the Owl Post play in keeping our students informed about current events, and how much growth iHoot has gone through throughout the years. It’s a really interesting look at the history of iHoot and what a big impact it has on our school. The author, Avika, is our current Co-Associate Editor. This publication takes around 10 minutes to read, or possibly a bit longer.
“Reading up on R.V’s” By Brooke Bolinger in 2022
Calling all travelers!! This article is perfect for anyone that travels a lot or is planning on doing so in the near future. R.V’s can provide the comfort of home while you are on the road, which is a huge convenience for students who may have to travel constantly for competitions and tournaments throughout the states. In this article, Brooke explains the difference between the different types of R.V’s and gives owl opinions on them as well. This is about a 10 minute read. If you are ever considering buying an R.V as a family, make sure to show your family as well!
College Corner
Introducing our final section; the College Corner, which falls under the Feature section. While this section may look like a relief for most junior or senior students, it offers valuable advice for a student in any grade looking to understand the scary chapter of life after high school.
“Senior Survival Guide” written by Eve Bamber in 2024
Senioritis hits hard. So, for any seniors looking for some relief, or nervous juniors looking for some senior year management tips, this is the article for you! It gives students real solutions to problems they may face, and achievable goals that they should set during their senior years, as well as some important things to focus on. It tackles the causes and effects of senioritis head on, giving seniors and juniors a realistic look at their last chapter in their high school life. This article should take around 20 minutes to read, but try to read slowly so that you can really absorb its content.
“Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other” written by Julia Thienvanich in 2024
If you really want advice, it’s best to look to the people who have gone or are going through the same struggle. Wise words from a student just a little older than you can definitely be a huge help, even if you don’t think it. In this article, Julia explains that no matter what you do, your post high school plans will never be perfect. There will always be ups and downs, but as long as you do what is right for you, everything will be okay! This article should take around 10 minutes to read.
“Wisely’s Guide to College Resumes” written by Erin O’Connell in 2024
College applications can be a doozy, but this article sums up important advice from our counselor, Mrs. Wilks, into a few short paragraphs as the ultimate guide for what one can do while creating their college resume. About a 20 minute read, it’s an invaluable article for any high schooler.
