Need a book series to keep you entertained instead of just following your monotonous routine? Pick up a book from the Ranger’s Apprentice series by Australian author John Flanagan. This series has a total of 12 books with an additional two prequels. The 12th book of this series leads to the 3rd series. This series is generally for audiences ranging from age 10-16.

In this fantasy-based series, John Flanagan captures a picture of a young boy named Will growing up and facing many challenges. Throughout his life being the odd one out, young Will fights his way to the top, gaining respect from many. Battles after battles are fought during this raging, historical-medieval time and friendships and foes are created and destroyed in this compelling series. Will’s experience on the battlefield not only improves through time, but his thought process and his overall character matures significantly.

Flanagan writes a story that keeps the readers from wanting to put the book down and only wanting to turn to the next few pages. He writes with vigor, capturing each individual moment and steadily maintaining his characters’ development. He encapsulates the growth of an underwhelming boy to a well-respected man through the development of his actions and reactions physically and mentally placed in that time. While this series may be chosen for an entertainment read, Flanagan also incorporates vocabulary into his writing, enhancing his stories and allowing the readers to grow intellectually. All in all, this book is a win-win: with a compelling plot, the Ranger’s Apprentice series captivates you, engaging you with the characters while introducing you to higher-level vocabulary. You can’t go wrong when you dive into it!
