There are many names today that are connected to the horror genre. Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, and H.P. Lovecraft are the three I want you to think about. As much as we love Stephen King, his books can be so long that it’s hard to read, but the other two are known for their short stories that bring the punch to the pit of your stomach. So, let’s look at some of their short stories that everyone one should read.

The Fall of the House of Usher is a heart gripping story by Edgar Allen Poe. It tells the story of the haunting of the house of Usher, a family that was once a name that everyone knew. But after the death of their daughter she haunts the house that her brother lives in and when an old friend and neighbor comes to visit her haunt becomes the fall of their home.

The Call of Cthulhu is one of  H.P. Lovecraft’s most well known stories. The story gives you information through the reading of letters, notes and word of mouth stories. We see our narrator uncover the narrative of the old god that is sleeping getting ready to awaken to rule the world again. With cults murdering innocent people and fear of the knowledge that they know now. This story is one that people should read for the story telling alone.

Though these are just two of the stories these known authors have written. They are stories that have helped paved the way that authors write horror today.
