It was 10:47 P.M.. I thrusted off my blanket tiptoed downstairs making sure that my parents were gone. I went to the kitchen, their bedroom and the living room. Clear, clear and clear.
“Yes!! Freedom!!” I yelled on the top of my lungs.
I shushed myself down so I wouldn’t wake up the neighbors. I sat on the couch, grabbed my phone and started to watch some movies. I hated watching horror movies, but I forced myself to watch. When you were home alone there were no rules and no rules meant no punishments. Of course my parents had banned me, though did they expect me to follow the rules? I hated rules. Why did you need them if no one found out when you broke them? This wasn’t the first time I had done this and nothing bad happened. Just when I was getting to the interesting part of my horror movie the grandfather clock rang 12 times. I looked at my watch and it was only 11:32. ‘Huh’ I thought and shrugged it off. The clock was old and sometimes old things could malfunction. The clock was my dad’s, but before it was his it was my grandfather’s and before it was my grandfather’s it was his dad’s and so on and so forth. DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! I heard 2 minutes later. Now I knew something was up. I paused my movie and slowly moved towards the clock. I looked at the time on the clock. Someone moved the hand. It could’ve been my parents, though they would never do that. I reached for my phone, but I remembered I couldn’t ask or else I would be in serious trouble. CRASH!
“Hello?” I whimpered.
I rushed to the kitchen and saw my mom’s favorite vase shattered on the ground.
“Wh.. Wha.. What’s happening?” I said aloud.
I quickly ran to my room and locked the door. I turned on the lights and then grabbed some stuff to search the house. I grabbed a flashlight, bandages and some of my dad’s fishing nets to catch the intruder. I unlocked the door to my room and headed to the living room. I turned on all the lights and sat on the couch one more time. I began to watch the movie, but then I heard a deafening scream. I sprinted to my mom’s office, locked the door and hid under her desk. Click, click, click. I heard the door open. I grabbed the net and put it over the person.
“Really, Evie?” A familiar voice said.
“Callia!” I exclaimed, “Was it you making those sounds?”
“Uhh. No. I just got home and heard a sound. That’s why I lockpicked the door and rushed in. Let’s relax, at least we have each other here?”
“Yes. Let’s lock the door.”
I grabbed some blankets and lay them on the floor. Me and my sister sat down and tried to finish the horror movie, but I couldn’t help but squirm in the blankets wondering who the intruder was. When the movie ended I heard a knock on the office door.
“Callia??” I asked.
“Stay here.” My big sister told me and went out the door.
She didn’t come back. I left the office and yelled her name. I gave up, but then I heard some giggling. I ran to my sister’s room and there she was with her best friend, Alix.
“How dare you!” I wheeled on my sister.
“Oh my. We really tricked you little sis!” My sister said while laughing.
“You just started a war. Next time I’ll get you. You’ll see Lia.”
“Oh Eve, please you can never prank me! I’m the prank queen!”
“Ugh! You’re such an annoying older sister. Night.”
“Right back at you. See you in the morning.”
I went back to my room and a few minutes later I heard my sister scream “SPIDER!”.
I smiled and thought ‘That was a note to end on.’. DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! I heard seconds later. I smiled. It was truly midnight. My eyes grew heavy and I went back to sleep. I was never going to trust my sister ever again, but when I heard tiny pebbles crashing against the house I ran to my sister’s room. I guess my spooky night wasn’t over just yet. It had just started.
