JULLIARD

Performing Arts

Juilliard, a private school in New York, centers around performing arts. In fact, if you want to attend Juilliard as a playwright, you need to go to an audition or send in a sample play. The competition is fierce. In 2007, out of 2,138 applicants, 162 people were admitted. If you are an actor, singer, and or playwright and would like to be accepted to Juilliard, good luck. I believe the key to nailing your audition is support, love, and a lot of practice. Seriously, just thinking about applying to this school shows how skilled you are at your craft. As an actress, I think that is a great gift.

This school offers three courses: dance, drama, and music. Through the dance programs, the Julliard staff strives to create contemporary dancers. They train dancers in both classical ballet and modern dance. The dance course offers four-year undergraduate programs. After those four years, you receive your Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) with liberal requirements. Without liberal requirements, you receive a degree.

The drama programs provide their actors with all necessary tools for the theater. They combine vocal and physical training along with extensive work with the written word. Their curriculum emphasizes intuition and spontaneity. They have a pledge, to teach their artists to take a place off responsibility in their community.

Juilliard’s music program is the largest and most diverse than any of the three. Through this program, their artists have numerous performances not only at Juilliard but, in different concert halls and jazz clubs. Undergraduates are eligible for the bachelor of music degree, or a diploma, and graduate- level degrees extend to the Master of Music (M.M) Graduate Diploma, artist Diploma, and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A).

From one artist to another Juilliard is the chance of a lifetime. So don’t spend your lifetime thinking you’re not good enough for Juilliard. If you’re serious about your craft this is the school for you. So good luck, and don’t forget, if Juilliard is your goal then never stop practicing.
