CHADWICK BOSEMAN

Honoring the man best known for his role as Black Panther

When we hear Black Panther we automatically think of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick Boseman helped touch so many lives with his most famous role of T’Challa/Black Panther. He instantly became a role model for not only children but adults as well, that’s why his death impacted so many people deeply.

Chadwick Boseman tragically passed on August 28, 2020 at the age of 43. His publicist revealed in a statement that he “was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.”. His publicist also revealed “from Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”.  He passed in his home alongside his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, and family by his side. Twitter revealed on August 29 that the news of his passing was the most liked tweet ever.

I asked a few students and teachers about if/how Chadwick and Black Panther/his other roles  impacted them. Makayla(10th grade) said “Black Panther and Chadwick impacted the traditional African American society.”. Mr. Duban(Teacher) said “On top of being a well made superhero movie which I always enjoy, I think Black Panther brings up a lot of interesting philosophical dilemmas when it comes to monocharies, ethics, and modern geopolitical issues. It was tragic to hear of his passing. He seemed kind and was such a talented person. He was a king on and off the screen. From my understanding he passed away because of colon cancer at 43, that is also scary to hear because my family has a history of colon cancer, including a grandfather who passed away when he was around 45. I think this could change when people with a history for the disease get screened, including myself. Even in his passing he is affecting people’s lives in a positive way. I hope that his family is doing the best they can in such an awful situation and he is at peace.”

Chadwick Boseman was and still is a hero in his nature. His legacy will live on in his family, friends, and of course his fans. “Wakanda forever.” Chadwick Boseman and Black Panther forever.
